Grief Should Not Be Ignored   What Do We Provide?
  • Six out of every ten children experience a major death before they are out of high school.
  • Approximately 1.5 million children will have one or both of their parents die before reaching age 18.
  • At any given time in the average classroom, there are at least two (2) children who are grieving the death of someone they loved. The most common death is that of a grandparent or great grandparent.
  • Unresolved childhood grief can prompt misbehavior, poor school performance, foster juvenile delinquency and severely affect social relationships later in the child's life as he/she enters into adulthood.

  • Grief support groups for children, and their families or caregivers who are experiencing the death of a loved one.
  • A safe, confidential environment to share feelings and experiences related to their grief with other children their own age.
  • An opportunity to express and release feelings through structured and unstructured play, discussion, drama, art, music and movement within a specialized support curriculum.
  • Education on the unique ways children grieve to help the adults closest to the child better recognize their needs and provide support.
  • Peer support to grieving parents/caregivers so that they may be supported in their own grief, thereby, enabling them to be more equipped to provide the needed support to their children.
